Skiing is very well-established in Bulgaria, with the winter
season running from December to April. Mt. Vitosha, just
a couple of miles south of Sofia, is the most accessible
of all ski areas in Bulgaria.
But
the largest ski resort is Borovets, 70 km to the south of
Sofia, which has the highest mountains on the Balkan peninsula
as a backdrop.
Pamporovo
is a ski resort in the Rhodopi Mountains - quite popular
with package tourists.
Bansko,
is the least commercilized ski resort and still retains
its old traditional appearance.
